On first thought, you might think that consuming honey might be bad for oral health. After all, it's a sweet food, and sugar can cause cavities. It turns out that honey actual has unqiue properties and therefore is "non-cariogenic", or in other words does not cause cavities.
Further, it looks like honey may actually improve oral health. This study shows that a special type of honey, manuka honey, led to a decrease in plaque and gum bleeding in only 3 weeks time. Also, an older study shows that honey reduces the level of bad bacteria in the mouth.
