Following up on the comments in the previous post, I have also been more careful now about my alignment when I walk. Just observing how others walk, I see many inefficient gaits. Many people have their feet pointed out, instead of straight ahead, when they walk. I would think this leads to a loss of forward momentum, and therefore would require more energy overall. I also see some people with just one foot pointed out and the other foot straight ahead. This might be even worse, because it would place uneven torque on the body.
I also see many people who do not have their feet directly underneath them, where one or both feet may be to the outside of the hips. With this situation, the leg is no longer vertical and this could lead to additional alignment problems.
Why are so many people walking with poor biomechanics? My guess is modern shoes and too much sitting.
