Results of a Mini-Transformation

The motivation for me trying to get down to a lower weight was shallow: I wanted to look good in a slim cut suit.  Searching around, I found that most of the tv guys my height (6') weighed around 155 lbs or so.  For most of the last 20 years, I have weighed right around 168 lbs.  So I took it as a challenge to get leaner, and to do it in time for AHS12.

My journey started in April at 170 lbs.  It ended at 155 lbs in August, for a total loss of 15 lbs.  Now I realize this isn't some kind of dramatic transformation, as I was normal weight in the first place.  But my goal was to experiment and find out what variables drove weight loss.

So how did I lose the weight?  Exactly as I laid out in the "How To Lose Weight" page.   By the end, I established a repeatable system that is explained via the page.

I was hoping to end up looking similar to Matt Bomer in a suit (minus the movie star good looks of course).  I'm sure he is wearing a more expensive suit, but I think I came pretty close.

I'm working on some followup posts with more detail as well.

Matt, you’d come pretty close to nailing it with a skinny tie and a more insouciant look.

I thought the same thing about the tie after I uploaded the picture. Are skinny ties back in fashion?

  3. Marc says:

Yes they are but you still look good :-)

GOOD JOB. I saw your talk at the AHS last year. The weight loss you’re sporting this year adds years to your face/demeanor. Bravo!

Also: there’s a happy-medium tie out there that’s between a standard-sized tie and a full-on skinny tie. I think it looks less silly than the generic slinky, skinny ties.

I’m no fashion expert but I think a skinny tie would match the slim cut suit much better. My impression in these eclectic days is that anything is in fashion that looks good, or that you can pull off, and you could totally pull off a skinny tie with that suit.

I’m sorry, I meant TAKES YEARS OFF your face/demeanor. You seem much more confident in this picture!

I knew what you meant, thanks…

At 5’3 I weigh 155. I’m also at ~10% body fat. I don’t think I’d enjoy being that thin. I really like my muscular frame. Can’t believe all these TV “HUNKS” are so thin.

I’m just about 60 now and also 6′ and weight 195. The last time
I was at 155, was somewhere in jr high school, although I have been down as low as 165 when I was really into competative powerlifting…but to remain there at a 6′ height was near impossible…I now am thinking 175-180 is much more realistic…
You should be an excellent distance runner at your new weight, Matt…

Yes, I am switching my focus more to running now that this is done.
