Following up on my efforts to go nitrogen-free with lawn fertilizer, there has been quite a bit of action in Florida on this topic. Several communities have implemented summertime bans on nitrogen-rich fertilizer. Apparently, the nitrogen runoff during the rainy summer is polluting the waterways.
Predictably, the chemical fertilizer companies are fighting back, supporting a bill to overturn the ban.
I think the writing is on the wall regarding both chemical fertilizer and even organic fertilizers. I think these are products that communities will eventually discover they can do without.
