Pull the Plug

Ever since I began reading more about eating to hunger and satiety, I have tried to become of aware of such on a daily basis.  One kind of shorthand analogy I've been using for eating to satiety (and then stopping) is "pull the plug".  As I'm eating, I take a few seconds every now and then to sense if I'm full or not.  If so, I pull the plug and stop eating.  Generally, I get up and move around a bit to shift gears.

It really only a took a few days to get tuned into this style of eating.  It's so easy to eat when distracted (watching tv, on the computer, etc.) that I think eating to satiety is becoming a lost art.  The good news is that once it becomes a habit, it seems to stick (at least in my case).

I’m well known for responding to “Are you full?” with “I don’t know, let me check…” and then STANDING UP to find out.

Seriously, I can’t tell if I’m full while I’m sitting down!

I’ve found the exact same thing! That’s one of the reasons I get up and move around when I think I’m getting full.

Interesting. I’m also trying to eat only to satiety. It’s not easy, it’s so easy to eat just a little more then I need.
My trick – which works about 50% – is to put only the amount on the plate I know will make me full.
Then I wait 20 minutes, if I’m still hungry after that I eat just a little more.
But that almost never happens… If I wait, that is.
In periods of more intense exercise it gets more tricky, but instead of just eating more at my regular eating times I eat in between meals (when I get hungry).
