Is Sitting the New Smoking?

Here's a short article with that title that discusses the dangers of sitting.  I do think the prolonged sitting at most jobs is going to get more research attention in the future.

After reading SO many articles about the evils of sitting, I built a treadmill desk. I’m walking 3-5 miles/days, and standing the rest of the time that I’m at my computer.

    LOVING it.

My weight hasn’t changed. I think I’m actually eating more food… and my body fat has dropped 2% in 3 weeks.

Very cool. I built a standing desk about 5 years ago and used it before I switched jobs. It seemed to give me more energy throughout the day.

    Hi, Matt

I think standing ( and avoiding long hours of sitting) is more important than formal exercise even. Standing is the basics. Too many people “workout” then go sit the rest of the day.

I had better health results when I used to work at a snaker store. I was not overly active ( moderately) but I WAS on my feet all day.

There is something about sitting all day that is terrible for our system.
