A new study just came out this month looking at the importance of eating to hunger. This cross-sectional study found that women who were more attuned to hunger and satiety signals had a lower BMI.
This research group previously showed that faster rates of eating correlated with higher BMI values.

Timely…and related to snacking post also.
I played in a golf charity outing yesterday. I left my house at 6:45 am and only had a small cup of strong coffee. We started at 8 and finished at 1:45. A lunch was served and I was starving. I ate, 1 burger patty, 1 chicken breast, 1 sausage, all over a big salad and coleslaw. I basically ate 3 meals. I ate till I was satisfied. Even though it seemed like a lot of food (as everyone at the table pointed out), I simply ate a lot cause I was real hungry and ate till I was full. The 3 others on my team ate a bit less BUT, they snacked on crackers, trail mix and chips two times while we were on the course. All 3 were overweight.
Additionally…. that was my only meal of the day. I did not eat dinner nor did I snack for the remainder of the day.
Snacking is a major contributor to eating to many calories imho.
