For the year 2007, I set some goals on this website, and it really helped to motivate me and push things along. With a new year upon us, I now will do so again. My primary two goals for 2008 are:
- Finish off my 2007 goal of lowering my waist to 31 inches (currently at 32.5 inches)
- Gain 15 pounds of muscle
There are other things I want to work on as well, but these two are at the top of the list. If things go well with these two items, I can always set other sub-goals throughout the year.
To achieve goal #1, I will continue on with my current eating plan (pure Paleo) and see if my waist continues to decline, as it has been the last couple months. If not, I will experiment with other things on the diet side to reach my goal.
To achieve goal #2, I will be doing more lifting. For most of 2007, I was lifting only once per week, which is enough to maintain strength but not really build mass, as I found out. My research into the subject showed that a person needs to lift at least twice a week to build new mass. Other research shows that 2x per week yields the same results as 3x per week, so I will increase my lifting frequency to twice per week, if only for the purpose of time savings.
I will also be doing a good bit more total volume, which I will post about soon.
Diet can affect muscle-building potential, so I will make some changes there as well. Sufficient protein is needed for muscle growth, so I will have to make sure I am getting this minimum amount. Further, dietary fat appears to be anabolic, so I will be increasing my fat intake. There will be more posts on this as well.
I am excited about this new year. It was nice to almost reach my waist goal in 2007, and I will hopefully ride the momentum into this year.
